Jenson Button returns to the 24 Hours of Le Mans
The 2009 Formula 1 World Champion will take part in the famous endurance race behind the wheel of a Nascar entered by Garage 56.
Five years after his first attempt. In 2018, Jenson Button, who had just retired from Formula 1, embarked on the conquest of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For this edition, he raced under the colors of the Russian team SMP Racing in LMP1.
For the centenary of the world’s greatest endurance race, the British will once again be part of it. Next June, he will get behind the wheel of a very special Chevrolet Camaro: a Nascar. This racing car is entered by the Garage 56 team. Their participation is authorized by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) because it is a vehicle of tomorrow’s technology and beyond.

It’s really special to be here. I have always considered myself a race driver and have been looking for new challenges since my F1 career. I am very excited about going to Le Mans and working with an “all-star” team, assured the 2009 Formula 1 world champion.
The former McLaren driver, and also Brawn GP in F1, will be associated with NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and Mick Rockenfeller.
« The agreement was born thanks to Jimmie a long time ago. I asked him what he planned to do in 2023 because he can’t sit still. He said he hoped to bring NASCAR to Le Mans, and then ‘Rocky’ [Mike Rockenfeller] invited me to a test in Sebring, and everything started from there. I watched and listened to all the information, and saw all the steps they were taking. I’m really looking forward to it », added Jenson Button.
