During a 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend, the WEC, the World Endurance Championship, unveiled the calendar for the 2024 season, with some surprises.

Newcomers

First of all, the championship will consist of eight rounds, eight races from March to November. An additional event will be added to the calendar compared to the 2023 season, which only has seven rounds.

Two new circuits have been added for the 2024 championship. The Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola, as well as the Lusail circuit in Qatar, will host an endurance race for the first time in their history. Therefore, these two circuits will have both a Formula 1 and an endurance race.

Imola is replacing Monza exceptionally for this 2024 season. For two reasons. The first reason is the rescheduling of the Italian round from July to April. However, this didn’t allow the Monza circuit to host endurance cars due to the renovation and upgrades that the circuit will undergo.

The return to the Circuit of the Americas

Two circuits from the 2023 championship will no longer host races in 2024. Portimao, accustomed to the discipline, will no longer see endurance racing in the 2024 season. The same goes for Sebring in the United States. However, Interlagos in Brazil, which also hosts Formula 1 races, will replace the Portuguese track. The United States will still have a race, but it will take place at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

For 2024, the calendar is expanding both in the number of races and in the number of geographical areas. This will bring in more people. […] This will bring a larger audience as well as diversity within it, said Frederic Lequien, CEO of the WEC.
