Romain Grosjean testing with Lamborghini
With the Iron Lynx stable, Lamborghini continued to grind the asphalt with its SC63, which will join the Hypercar class next season. The Spanish circuit of Almeria was an opportunity for Romain Grosjean to familiarize himself with his future weapon.
Alpine and BMW are actively preparing for their arrival in the endurance queen class next year. Meanwhile, Lamborghini is not sitting idly by: the SC63, entrusted to the Italian team Iron Lynx, has continued its tests and this time has been entrusted to Romain Grosjean.
The Frenchman, now an official pilot, was supported by the current GT3 driver Andrea Caldarelli. But these three days of testing in Spain were not aimed at immediately seeking performance: each Hypercar manufacturer may be preparing for the WEC, the ultimate of the season remains the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The work was mainly focused on the good management of long relays. And Romain Grosjean, who made his first laps with the SC63, seems to have had a good time.
« It was a very intense three days, but it was really nice to be able to work with the whole team, and to have been able to drive the car for the first time. It behaves well on these first laps and I am eager to discover it a bit better with the tests that will come. »
A double preparation
The Lamborghini SC63 will not have finished its preparation, as it will go to the United States, after visiting other European tracks next week.
Let’s recall that Lamborghini, like BMW, Porsche and Cadillac, will be present both in IMSA (but only for a few races) and in WEC next season. The tests on the Circuit of the Americas, where F1 is heading in less than two weeks, will validate the homologation for the American championship.
For Romain Grosjean, his troubles with Andretti in IndyCar could be forgotten with a Lamborghini supposedly fighting on roughly equal terms with the nine other manufacturers of the WEC.
