8 Hours of Bahrain – Free Practice 3: Cadillac takes the lead ahead of Ferrari

The last free practice session of the 8 Hours of Bahrain allowed Cadillac to stand out: car number 2 (Bamber/Lynn/Westbrook) set the fastest time ahead of Ferrari, while Toyota remained more discreet.

The loss of seven kilograms on the scale, through the Balance of Performance (BoP), allowed Cadillac to make good use of it: the American prototype dominated the last practice session, ahead of revitalized Ferraris.

Car #2, driven by Bamber/Lynn/Westbrook, felt comfortable on the Bahrain track, under the heat that will be present for the race start this Sunday. The 1:49.512 from the Cadillac was more than enough, well ahead of Ferrari #50, which did manage to get back in the top positions but conceded half a second.

On Porsche’s side, the factory teams tend to be roughed up by the private ones: the Proton No. 99 (Jani/Bruni/Tincknell), also lightened, finished 3rd. The best of the factory 963s is No. 6 with Vanthoor/Estre/Lotterer, in 6th place.

On the Peugeot side, things seem to be going a little better than yesterday, as car No. 94, the sensation of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by leading during the night, finished in 5th place. It should also be noted that the 9X8 will undergo significant modifications, including a rear wing, in order to better fit within the LMH performance window.

Finally, the Toyota team showed a lot of discretion, with only the 8th and 9th fastest times, in the order of #8, leading the championship, and #7.

One United replaces another

United Autosport continues to dominate the intermediate category with ease. But this time, the N°22, which had been dominant in EL1 and EL2, has relinquished its position to the N°23 (Pierson/Blomqvist/Jarvis) and only managed to finish 4th.

The fight for the driver’s titles is still open: WRT No. 41 (Kubica/Deletraz/Andrade) played it safe in 7th place, ahead of their rival car for the title, the Inter Europol No. 34. The qualifications will require a flawless performance.

Finally, in LMGTE-Am, the Porsche from Project One, with its friendly T-Rex face, set the best time, far ahead of the Richard Mille AF Corse (No. 84) crew, driven by Conpanc, Rovera, and of course Lilou Wadoux, who will driver the Ferrari Hypercar after the 8 Hours of Bahrain.
