Lamborghini is making its debut in sports prototypes at the pinnacle of endurance racing with the stunning SC63, dressed in green. One machine will take on the challenge over in North America, in the IMSA series, but only on select races. The competition will include BMW, Porsche, and Cadillac, who are already competing in the WEC, as well as Acura (whose presence through Honda in the WEC is expected in the near future on a global scale).

The “American” crew will be trained to confirm the promises seen for the SC63, based on a Ligier chassis.

Romain Grosjean will be the factory driver for the Sant’Agata Bolognese firm in IMSA, alongside Italians Matteo Cairoli and Andrea Caldarelli. The first mentioned will indeed be quite busy in this 2023 season, as he will juggle the (partial) program in IMSA and will also race in IndyCar for Juncos Holllinger.

The return of Kvyat to the premier category

As for the Lamborghini in the WEC, the crew will be made up of experienced Formula 1 and endurance racers. Daniil Kvyat had already been rumored to drive for Iron Lynx with the SC63, and the confirmation has been given. It is worth noting that the Russian driver will compete in 2024 under an Italian license, not a Russian one.

His teammates will be the Swiss Edoardo Mortara, vice champion of the Formula E world in 2021 with Mercedes Venturi, and the Italian Mirko Bortoloti, formerly involved in DTM.

At the end of the day, the teams in WEC and IMSA will build upon the promising performance seen during the Daytona tests.
