The rumor is gaining more and more credibility. For several months, the arrival of a new manufacturer in the World Endurance Championship has been in the pipeline. The sweet name of Hyundai was on many lips. But nothing official.

Until Thursday, September 12th. In the early morning, the South Korean manufacturer confirmed its intention to enter the WEC. This will be done under the name Genesis, the high-end brand of the Hyundai Motor Group automotive group.

This news was announced by the championship itself. For the moment, few details have been given. The potential participation remains subject to the approval of the WEC selection committee, a very brief four-line statement reads.

What is certain is that Hyundai’s likely arrival in endurance racing will take place in the form of the LMDh program. The selected chassis would not come as a big surprise, Oreca’s. A second phase of communication, with more details, is expected in the coming weeks.

Cyril Abiteboul and his team will therefore be competing in a second world championship, with rallies, in 2026. The brand also continues its streak of four consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
