BMW: low-key race but hyper-important podium at Fuji
The #15 BMW scored its first podium of its young career in the World Endurance Championship. The WRT car finished second.

A totally crazy race. Doubt it? Look at the final standings. For the brave souls who got up at 4 a.m. and held on until the checkered flag, they were able to witness some historic events for the World Endurance Championship.
Among all that happened in Japan, we can note the performance of BMW. If the #20 didn’t have an easy race, the other one, the #15, shone. Qualified third, it surprised Toyota #8 at the first corner and didn’t really let go of its second position.
One step before victory.
An incredible race. The first podium for BMW is a fantastic success. It’s a very special moment for everyone who has worked so hard on this project. Considering the starting point of the season and our current position, it’s a huge improvement. Second place is good, but we are not quite where we want to be yet – it’s a victory, rejoices Dries Vanthoor, from #15.

The German brand, operated by WRT, obtained its first podium here in the World Endurance Championship. This proves that this category of motorsport is very homogeneous and that any manufacturer is capable of shining.
An exceptional job
The trio Vanthoor/Wittmann/Marciello has finished in the points for the third time in a row. This allows them to climb to eleventh place in the drivers’ standings with 24 points. The team has the Cadillac #2 (26 points) and the Alpine #35 (27 points) in their sights.
« Finally! We have finally arrived where we wanted to be. We were fully committed throughout the weekend. It’s an incredible feeling. Everyone did an exceptional job. I am over the moon for the team that has been giving their all to this project for a year and a half. Today, we have reaped the well-deserved reward », tells Vincent Vosse, team principal of WRT.
BMW will therefore arrive with confidence in Bahrain for the final round of the season on October 31st.
