Sarah Bovy reflects on the moment she learned of Michelle Gatting’s withdrawal from the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Called in at the last minute to replace the injured Michelle Gatting, Sarah Bovy spoke in detail about the sad opportunity that presented itself.

A half-celebrated Father’s Day. Just about ready to visit her father, Sarah Bovy received a phone call that disrupted her plans.
Sunday, June 9, Michelle Gatting fractured her foot during the test day, during a driver change. Unable to race at Le Mans, the Dane called her friend to inform her of the situation and to offer her to take her place.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, June 11, the Belgian reflected on this moment, both sad and unusual. « We can reenact the scene if you want. She was sitting on the couch, and I was in my car, ready to go to my father’s for Father’s Day. She called me and said, “Are you ready to race at Le Mans?” And when I saw her foot and she explained the problem, I prepared myself. Everyone at home was sad for Michy (Michelle Gatting’s nickname) because we are very close. They know what Le Mans means to us. But in a way, everyone was happy for me. »
Of course, the one who won the 8 Hours of Bahrain in 2023 is delighted to take the wheel of the Porsche entered in LMGT3, but she laments not seeing her friend start the race. « I know her very well, I know how much she prepared for Le Mans, she was ready, more than anyone else. When she called me to say she wouldn’t be able to race, I couldn’t believe it. She’s our leader, she should have raced this weekend. »
Throughout the next few hours, the Belgian will try not to be overwhelmed by emotion. This shouldn’t be an issue given all her experience and participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. « It’s hard not to be happy racing here, but I would have preferred to see Michy in the car. I’m going to give the best version of Sarah Bovy. This is an opportunity for me to help as much as possible with this project. »
The race week unfortunately did not start very well for the Iron Dames. During the first free practice session, the Porsche #85 only achieved the 22nd fastest time. Not a good sign for the qualifying session scheduled at 6:45 PM.
