A surprising qualification. While the Aston Martins have consistently struggled at the beginning of this season, at Le Mans, they have turned a corner. The #009 managed to eliminate both Peugeots as well as the #8 Toyota, already creating a huge surprise.

Qualified 16th, she narrowly missed access to the hyperpole. But during the night, the stewards disqualified Porsche #6, which benefited Marco Sorensen’s Valkyrie. “It was incredible, we didn’t think we could have a car in hyperpole. Marco had a crazy session, it was great to see. Driving is always a special feeling, but sometimes watching your teammates drive is just as exciting. I think everyone involved in the program is eager for the race,” emphasized Roman De Angelis, his teammate.

The drivers learned this news just before midnight, which caused an explosion of joy in the garage. The lap times achieved by everyone also stunned all the team members. We were shocked.

The Aston Martin #009 will therefore be lined up for the first time in its history in hyperpole, especially at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The trio Sorensen / De Angelis / Riberas does not expect anything special. « We’ll see what we can do; it will only be a bonus. »
