“The last part of the race was crazy”: Eduardo Barrichello looks back on his first WEC podium finish

A weekend that is likely to be etched forever in his memory. During the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, the true hero of the weekend was Eduardo Barrichello. The Brazilian, racing on home turf, achieved pole position after a magnificent lap at Interlagos.

A performance that is not surprising. During the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Valentin Hasse-Clot, his teammate, praised Dudu’s talent to us. We knew that the day we moved to hyperpole, he would put the car on pole or on the front row. The second place at Spa was a sign.

In the race, the son of the former Formula 1 driver was equally masterful with a last mad stint to snatch the podium from the deserving Iron Dames. At the wheel of his Aston Martin, Eduardo Barrichello was driving much faster than everyone else and reached the finish line in front of his home crowd.

« The last part of the race was crazy; I had to fully trust my engineers, who were telling me how hard I needed to push the tires at the end. I couldn’t stress them too much, otherwise they would have reached their limit very quickly. Fortunately, we managed to handle that, and everything went well. We had enough resources in the car to clinch third place », he confided.

Thanks to this incredible weekend, the Brazilian secured his first pole position in the World Endurance Championship as well as his first podium. He also delivered to his team, Racing Spirit of Léman, its first podium in their debut season in this competition.
