Towards Porsche’s arrival in F1 from 2025?
A greener discipline could bring the Porsche brand to F1 by 2025.

An arrival eagerly anticipated and even fantasized about by many followers: that of Porsche in F1. Driven by the Volkswagen group, will the German brand also make its debut, following Aston Martin’s return this year?
A fuel issue
Why not! These are essentially the words of Porsche Motorsport vice-president Fritz Enzinger, interviewed by BBC Sport this Wednesday, March 3.
« It would be very interesting from a sustainability perspective, especially with the arrival of a green fuel.
Concretely, Fritz Enzinger links a potential arrival of Porsche to an evolution of the regulations. F1 has already set the course: 100% of fuels from renewable energies by 2025, at the time of the introduction of the new engines.
From 2022, F1 will run on a fuel composed of 10% bioethanol. This proportion must gradually increase to reach 100% in 2025. Already available in your gas stations for your everyday car, bioethanol is a green fuel, produced with sugar beet or grains such as wheat or corn.
In any case, if F1 meets its goal for 2025, the manufacturer Volkswagen could get closer to F1. According to Fritz Enzinger, if these aspects were confirmed, then we will evaluate in detail with the VW Group and discuss to take a step forward.
At Porsche and Volkswagen, we observe the constant change of regulations in all major motor racing championships. Especially with the emergence of a new engine and transmission system for Formula 1 from 2025.
F1? « It would be very interesting in terms of sustainability and with the arrival of a green fuel. » Fritz Enzinger, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport
Porsche keeps the suspense going.
Goals consistent with Volkswagen’s strategy could therefore attract the Porsche brand to F1. Will they enter as a sole constructor or also as an engine supplier? Recall that Red Bull currently does not have a power unit from 2025, after having obtained engine development freeze until that date.
No need to panic: Porsche has already mentioned several times an interest in F1, as in this article in mid-2017. Since then, the German firm has withdrawn from the WEC, entered Formula E… and will return to WEC in 2023 in the Hypercar category, competing against Peugeot or Ferrari.
