The United States Grand Prix is expected to return to the calendar next season, in 2012. A second Grand Prix in the United States, specifically near New York, is planned to be introduced starting in 2013. However, Bernie Ecclestone is considering organizing even more races in the United States, aiming for two more to reach a total of four Grand Prix per year in the land of Uncle Sam.

Contrary to what TF1 commentators said yesterday during the Indian Grand Prix, Charles Pic has not yet signed a contract for the 2012 season. The Frenchman is still in negotiations with several teams: Team Lotus, Virgin, and Williams.

Sebastian Vettel made Formula 1 history today by winning the inaugural Indian Grand Prix. The German driver also set a new record for the most laps led in a single season, breaking the previous record held by Nigel Mansell. The reigning world champion also paid tribute to Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli, who recently passed away. Mark Webber, on the other hand, had a somewhat more challenging Grand Prix, experiencing significant tire wear and having to concede to Fernando Alonso in the battle for 3rd place in the Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso knew it would be difficult for him to fight for the victory, but the double world champion hoped to mix it up in the battle to finish on the podium. He succeeded by passing Mark Webber during his last stop, finishing in 3rd place for the first Indian Grand Prix in Formula 1. Felipe Massa's race did not go as well; the Brazilian collided with Lewis Hamilton and received a penalty following the incident. He ultimately retired after breaking his front left suspension on a kerb - as he did in qualifying yesterday when he broke his front right suspension.

Jenson Button announced yesterday that he could win the first Indian Grand Prix, and the 2009 world champion did everything he could to achieve that. However, his McLaren was not fast enough to compete with Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull. Nevertheless, Button managed to finish on the podium - in second place. Lewis Hamilton experienced a race that was a bit too eventful; he was hit by Felipe Massa, forcing him to make an additional pit stop. He hopes to make up for it in the last two races of the season. Button's second place, coupled with Hamilton's 7th, allows the McLaren team to secure its second place in the constructors' championship behind Red Bull and ahead of Scuderia Ferrari.

The Sahara Force India team is the only Indian team in Formula 1, and for its home Grand Prix, the drivers hoped to achieve a good result. Adrian Sutil succeeded in this by finishing the race in 9th place, earning the team two points. Paul di Resta wasn't as fortunate; he had adopted a strategy based on the deployment of the safety car, which never came, and he struggled to recover afterwards.

Well positioned for a few laps at the start of the race in the middle of the pack, Narain Karthikeyan delivered an incredible race today at home for the first Indian Grand Prix of Formula 1. The HRT driver finally finished the race in a very respectable 17th place, ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. He made a strong impression by being very competitive throughout the weekend in front of his fans and audience, despite having had very little track time in the recent Grand Prix events.

After a magnificent race in South Korea, Jaime Alguersuari did it again in India. The Spanish driver finished in 8th place, being the best of the rest. These four points allow Toro Rosso to draw level with Sauber in the fight for 7th place in the constructors' championship. Sébastien Buemi also seemed well on his way to finishing in the points for this first Indian Grand Prix of Formula 1, but the Swiss driver ultimately had to retire due to a mechanical problem on his STR6.

Luca di Montezemolo, the head of Ferrari, has been advocating for several months for F1 teams, especially the most prestigious ones, to be allowed to run more than two cars in Grand Prix races or to lease or sell a car to a smaller team. The Italian boss, who stands alone against everyone else, has nonetheless managed to stir things up, and the Formula 1 Commission might consider including this change in the new Concorde Agreements, which will take effect from 2013.
Le 29/10, 13:06
The Lotus Renault Grand Prix team knew that the qualifying session would be difficult, especially for Vitaly Petrov who received a five-place penalty for colliding with Michael Schumacher in South Korea. The Russian driver set the 11th fastest time and will therefore start 16th - quite far back. His teammate, Bruno Senna, will start just ahead from the 14th position, but with only one set of softs left for the race, he expects to face a tough Grand Prix. Vitaly Petrov, on the other hand, still hopes to climb back into the top 10 to bring a good result to the LRGP team.
