Like all the other teams, Ferrari ran both its drivers on intermediate tires during the second practice session—Alonso and Massa having completed only a few laps in the first session. However, the reds faced challenges getting the intermediate tires up to temperature and making them last the distance as well. This rain-marred testing day will give the engineers and drivers some work, as Alonso believes they will need to improvise a bit for the qualifying session tomorrow and the race on Sunday.

The Lotus Renault team did not have a very productive day, because even though Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov were able to test the wet and intermediate tires, there is still work to be done from an aerodynamic perspective on the R31 to improve the overall performance of the car. Like its rivals, Force India had little track time for its drivers today - even though Paul di Resta, who was discovering the circuit, managed to complete more laps than Adrian Sutil to find a good rhythm. Both men attempted to fit supersoft tires at the end of the day but were unsuccessful as the track was still too wet. They therefore expect a busy day tomorrow to prepare for qualifying and the race.
