Feared for several weeks, the Australian Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21 at the Albert Park circuit, has finally been canceled. The organizers confirmed the bad news in the morning.

As last year, the event cannot take place due to the intensifying Covid-19 pandemic in Australia. While the event was supposed to kick off the 2021 season, it had been postponed to late November as the health situation did not allow for its organization.

The news was confirmed by Formula 1 and the CEO of the sport, Stefano Domenicali, admitted that Formula 1 has already started the research in order to maintain a 23-race calendar and states that a certain number of options are on the table. After Canada, Turkey (before returning a few weeks later), and Singapore, Australia is added to the list of canceled Grand Prix.

The organizers took advantage of its postponement to modify several corners of the circuit in order to provide more on-track spectacle. We will therefore have to wait a little longer to discover the new layout of Albert Park.

The president of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Paul Little, announced a deeply disappointing decision and stated that he understood the challenge that international travel restrictions pose for Australia and the importance of vaccination.

This decision concerns not only Formula 1, as MotoGP will also not set their wheels on the Philip Island circuit for the second consecutive year.

We are deeply disappointed that for a second consecutive year, fans of MotoGP™ and Formula 1 will not be able to see the best drivers in the world compete on the wonderful circuits of the Phillip Island Grand Prix and Albert Park, said Paul Little.
