Hungarian Grand Prix – Fernando Alonso elected driver of the day
Fernando Alonso is elected driver of the day for his superb performance in Hungary. Acquired on merit, this title rewards his participation in Alpine's and Ocon's victory this Sunday.

A complete victory for the Alpine team
Following the collision that marked the first start, Esteban Ocon was able to take advantage of the opportunity to take the lead as early as the second lap of the second start. He will not let go of this position until the end of the Grand Prix.
This victory is the result of a team strategy. As splendid and flawless as the Frenchman’s race was, it was necessary for a helping hand to be given to him to secure this victory.
His teammate Fernando Alonso also had a great race. He particularly stood out at the end of the race, during his battle with Lewis Hamilton.
The spotlights remained focused during all the laps where the Spaniard was closing in on the third place held at the time by Carlos Sainz. And this, while he admirably resisted the increasingly incisive attacks from the seven-time reigning world champion.
A mano-a-mano of rare intensity unfolded during many rounds. A virile, yet fair battle. The experience of the two protagonists was evident in the closeness of their attacks and defenses. The spectacle provided by these two champions was as intense as it was magnificent.
Even though Alonso gave up five laps before the finish line, his action proved to be sufficient to counter the Englishman’s desire for victory on Hungarian soil.
This title is purely honorary, but rewards the perseverance of the one who is not unfairly nicknamed “the bull of Asturias”.
