He has never hidden it. Pierre Gasly wants to come back to Red Bull. In 2019, his time in the team alongside Max Verstappen did not go as planned. With disappointing results and some pressure, the Frenchman was demoted to Toro Rosso, the former identity of AlphaTauri, halfway through the season. Since then, Gasly has been impressing the bosses at Red Bull.

Last year, he had a more than convincing season at AlphaTauri, with the added bonus of a victory at Monza. In 2021, he almost single-handedly carries his team by scoring 50 points out of a total of 68. This raises questions for the energy drink bosses about the future of the young driver. However, it is unlikely that the Frenchman will be able to join Red Bull again. Max Verstappen keeps his seat warm and Sergio Perez continues to improve in his car, even if Helmut Marko enjoys playing hot and cold about the Mexican’s future. The Normand is ready and waiting to see what happens.

« I think it’s quite clear from my side. It’s in Red Bull’s hands. Max has signed for next year. I think Sergio Perez has a one-year contract. We will see what happens there and what we will do together for the future,” he said to Motorsport.

The Frenchman is, however, waiting for news from Red Bull. According to him, it’s coming soon. He should get some answers during the summer break or after the holidays: « I am quite confident that we should get some answers at some point during the summer vacation or afterwards.

Franz Tost, the boss of the AlphaTauri team, wishes to keep his duo Gasly and Tsunoda for next year. Although he appreciates his role as a leader, Gasly believes that a driver always wants to be in the best possible car.

« As a driver, you always want to be in the car and fight for the best position. It’s in their hands (Red Bull, note). If they want me to step up my performances or if they are satisfied with the pair they have. It depends on Perez’s performance and how they plan the future of AlphaTauri.

Even if a return to Milton Keynes is high risk, the Tricolore doesn’t have many other options since the other teams (Ferrari, McLaren, and Alpine) have already secured their future or have other advanced options (Mercedes).
