Schumacher: “It’s good” to be disappointed with your best result in F1
Before the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Mick Schumacher reflected on his eleventh place at Bahrain. It was his best career result, but it disappointed the German driver as his Haas finally became competitive again.

After his eleventh place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Mick Schumacher reflected on his performance that brought him to the doorstep of scoring points. Despite it being his best result in Formula 1, disappointment prevails for the German, while his teammate, the comeback driver Kévin Magnussen, finished fifth.
“I think it shows that even though we had our best result, we are still disappointed in a certain way. This proves that we have much more potential. It’s good to be disappointed and to dream of something bigger, because it motivates you even more to try our best every time and even more,” Schumacher said before the second round in Jeddah.
The German had finished at the back of the grid last year for his first season in F1. Behind the wheel of an underdeveloped Haas in 2021, the son of the seven-time world champion could only achieve a twelfth place in Hungary as his best result. The American team’s car for 2022 looks promising and Schumacher must get used to aiming higher than last year.
« You need to readjust your expectations. Last year, the goals were at best to aim for P16, and this year we see that we can be P5 if everything goes well. » explained the young driver. He will also have to face the competition from his teammate, Kevin Magnussen, who has already proven that he has kept his excellent driving skills. The experience of the Danish driver could be beneficial for Schumacher who finds it « good to have [Magnussen] on board and be able to learn from him ».
The Haas will have to confirm the promises displayed during the inaugural round in Bahrain, starting this Sunday in Jeddah.
