Nicholas Latifi has responded to rumors of his mid-season departure: he will be present until the end of the year. The Canadian still logically feels threatened for 2023.

Nicholas Latifi is one of the drivers whose place in Formula 1 is greatly threatened. Present since 2020, in the early stages of his third season in the premier category, the Canadian continues to show that he is simply the weakest driver on the grid, especially with the new 2022 F1 model.

Chaining mistakes and never being in sync with his teammate Alex Albon, Nicholas Latifi knows that his position is threatened for next year. « I really feel under pressure. I think it would be the same for any driver who doesn’t have a contract for the following year,” says the 26-year-old Canadian.

Latifi himself is not happy with his performances. « I think the pressure is still there, no matter if I have had good performances or where I am now, which is obviously not where I want to be. I obviously know that I need to improve. I want to improve. I am not satisfied with how things are today, so I am just happy to try to continue taking steps to improve. »

But while some rumors suggest a replacement of Latifi during the current season, his response is categorical: he will finish the season. “I know I will be driving for the rest of the year. I don’t really have any comments on the subject,” he declares.

For 2023, the story seems to be quite different. The fate of Latifi could be definitively sealed as Oscar Piastri has been getting closer to Williams in recent weeks. However, nothing is confirmed at the moment, from either side. Stay tuned.
