Verstappen is in the best shape of his life for Horner

Since his title as world champion last season, Max Verstappen has moved to another dimension and has reached a new level. In the beginning of the 2022 season, the Dutchman is perfectly holding his position as the reigning world champion.

His six successes in nine Grand Prix are the perfect illustration. Always imperial, Verstappen seizes every tiny opportunity to maximize all the results. Without his two mechanical retirements in Sakhir and Jeddah, “Super Max” has never finished outside of the podium this year.

During the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend, the Dutch driver didn’t deviate from the rule and, despite a victory that was not as easy as expected due to Sainz, Verstappen once again did the job perfectly. His team principal, Christian Horner, once again expressed his admiration for his driver this weekend.

Max, you know, he was dominant all weekend and the pressure he had to absorb in the last 15 laps after the safety car was really impressive. He remained very calm, and we also had this radio issue. I think he could hear us, but we couldn’t hear him. But the way he managed the race, controlled the pace, and the tires, it was a masterclass, states Horner.

Horner also adds that the combination of a Verstappen at the peak of his performance with his team, which is almost perfect as well, is remarkable. « We have to take the races one by one. We had a great race together, it’s fantastic to go to Silverstone leading both championships, Max is in the form of his life, the team is doing an excellent job. »

With now a 49-point lead over his closest rival in the championship, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen is off to a great start to secure a second crown. However, the road ahead is still long and the Dutchman himself is being cautious.
