Daniel Ricciardo: Too many weekends without (English)
The news broke on Wednesday, August 24th: Daniel Ricciardo will leave McLaren after 2022. This departure was not accompanied by the name of a new team, but it has garnered empathy from fellow drivers.

Wednesday, August 24th, Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren have confirmed their divorce. It’s the end of a two-year collaboration, marked by a victory but mostly marred by complicated weekends.
On Thursday, during the press conference, Daniel Ricciardo was naturally confronted with the question by journalists. « These were not the results we had hoped for,” admits the Australian. « We tried to understand what was wrong, whether it was in my driving or the car, but there were just too many weekends without. »
The burning question on everyone’s lips inevitably concerns his future: where will he go? Nobody has been able to extract a concrete answer from Honey Badger. “I still love this sport and I still plan to fight at the front. I don’t have any leads at the moment, but I will seize the best opportunity,” he adds.
Pérez and Vettel empathetic.
By Ricciardo’s side were, with Pierre Gasly and Nicholas Latifi, Sergio Pérez and Sebastian Vettel.
The first mentioned fits perfectly into his Australian counterpart’s shoes: in 2020, he had been let go by Racing Point, future Aston Martin, and was in complete uncertainty for 2021. That’s when Red Bull called upon him, with some success. « I know what it’s like to be in uncertainty about the future » relates the Mexican. « But, in these kind of moments, we can stumble upon something better for ourselves and that’s positive. »
Sebastian Vettel also had nothing but praise for his former teammate at Red Bull in 2014. Their rivalry marked the end of a reign for the German driver, who had won four world titles. For Daniel, it’s a difficult situation, being one of the best drivers. I had the pleasure of racing with him and also the regret of being beaten. I don’t know the details, but I think McLaren didn’t fully tap into his potential.
