Gasly’s tribute to Anthoine Hubert
Three years after the tragic accident of the driver Anthoine Hubert during the Formula 2 Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, the tributes continue from Gasly to his childhood friend.

Once again this year, Pierre Gasly placed flowers in the turn where the accident that led to the death of his teammate, Anthoine Hubert, took place. The AlphaTauri driver appeared emotional in front of the spot.
On August 31, 2019, the French driver Anthoine Hubert crashed during the Spa Grand Prix in Belgium. While exiting the 4th turn, the Frenchman veered off his trajectory following a road exit by one of the drivers. He collided head-on with the wall before being hit by another driver.
There has been a lot of emotion in the world of automotive and Formula 1, especially from Leclerc and Gasly, with whom Hubert shared the circuits when they were younger. Gasly even wrote an open letter to pay him a poignant tribute.
Modifications made to the circuit.
This year, the organizers have decided to make changes to the track in order to avoid another tragedy during one of the Grand Prix races taking place this weekend.
The biggest changes concern the gravel traps that are placed on the edge of the track, especially at the first corners. As a result, drivers will have to avoid certain maneuvers such as overtaking from the outside.
Other turns are affected by these changes, such as Speaker Corner and the following turns also receive gravel traps and new ways to take them, on the inside for motorcycles and on the outside for Formula 1.
The drivers will therefore have a first glimpse during this weekend, as French driver Pierre Gasly reminds us.
« This year, the Spa track has been modified and we will have a first glimpse of it. Since what happened to Anthoine, they have thoroughly studied it and have therefore proposed these modifications, which notably include gravel traps. »
