Hamilton can “bring that little extra” to Ferrari in the race for the title, according to Alonso
Despite a surprising and unexpected announcement for him, Fernando Alonso admitted that the Hamilton - Ferrari partnership could work. However, he still took a subtle jab at his arch-rival.

In the midst of pre-season training, Fernando Alonso was completely unaware of the transfer that was about to be announced between Lewis Hamilton and Scuderia Ferrari for 2025. “I was in the middle of training that day, so I missed out on all the stress from everyone and I was a day late with the news,” Alonso joked.
It was probably a surprise, not because of the change itself, but simply because from the outside, he seemed very connected to Mercedes and very loyal to them, and it was a bit unexpected.
Former teammate of Lewis Hamilton at McLaren in 2007, Alonso never misses an opportunity to playfully take a small jab at his lifelong rival.
« I don’t know the reasons behind it, I don’t know anything, I don’t know the stories, so it’s no longer a question for him… It wasn’t his childhood dream 12 months ago, right? Or even two months, I suppose, because he had a different dream. », he expressed after Hamilton’s statements about his childhood dream with Ferrari.
Some will say that he is right and others that he is wrong. But a transfer to the Reds, no one can refuse it, and Alonso knows it very well because he joined Ferrari in 2010 to aim for the title with the Scuderia. Finally, after five seasons of failure against Red Bull and then Mercedes in 2014, he left Ferrari to return to McLaren.
« Hamilton can bring that little extra »
But the Spanish now know that Ferrari has the potential to come back to the level of Red Bull and compete for the title. “I hope [Lewis Hamilton] will appreciate the experience, it’s a very special team,” he continued.
« It’s even more special when you win, and that’s what you have to do. They have had a very fast car for a few years now and have been fighting for great things. And maybe Lewis [Hamilton] can bring that little something extra to fight for the championship, because as I said, the car is there.

Fernando Alonso finally admits that Lewis Hamilton can help Ferrari achieve what the Scuderia has been waiting for in the past 16 seasons: a drivers’ world championship title. Even though the Spanish driver does not wish to retire right away, he aims to compete for a few more podiums and victories against his British rival.
