After the departure of David Sanchez, technical director of the team, it’s now Emanuele Pirro’s turn to leave.

The former Formula 1 driver and five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans announced his departure on his Instagram account.

« After a year of hard work and satisfaction, I am leaving McLaren DDP. With the help of the Formula 1 team, I have been able to establish a structure to help develop talented and hard-working young drivers into future McLaren champions. To the best of my abilities, I have successfully completed this task by discovering and signing young stars who, I truly believe, can etch their name in the history books. I wish all the best to Gabriel, Ugo, Bianca, Pato, Ryo, and Brando, as well as the future drivers with whom collaboration has already begun. With all of you and your competitors, the future of this sport that I love so much is in good hands. I am now ready to take on new challenges. »

McLaren had announced in 2023, the reorganization of its young driver development program. As mentioned in its post, Pirro and his team had been able to recruit the 2023 F3 champion, Gabriel Bortoleto, the F1 Academy driver, Bianca Bustamente, and the young American Ugo Ugochukwu.

The Italian technician had signed a contract a year ago that seems to not have been renewed. At present, the identity of his replacement is not yet known.
