One month ago, McLaren announced the departure of its French engineer.

Arriving in January, David Sanchez was supposed to take up the position of technical director in charge of the concept and performance of the single-seater. But for McLaren, his duties did not match what had been envisaged: the two parties then terminated their contract.

Alpine announced this Thursday the appointment of David Sanchez as Executive Technical Director. He is returning to his first team, as he first joined Formula 1 in 2005 with the Enstone team, back when it was still called Renault. He then went to McLaren, and later to Ferrari, where he headed the aerodynamic department before becoming head of design.

This time, his role will be to oversee the new technical structure performances, engineering and aerodynamics, within the Enstone team. This means that the technical directors, Ciaron Pilbeam for performances, Joe Burnell for engineering and David Wheater for aerodynamics will all report to Sanchez.

I am delighted to welcome David back to Enstone, where he started his career in 2005. This is a key appointment for us to ensure we optimize everything we do as a team and focus on the right performance areas,” Bruno Famin recalled.

It is clear that the performance of the car and the development path have not evolved at a sufficient pace compared to our ambitions as a team. We are looking forward to welcoming David and working together to achieve ultimate success.

David Sanchez happy about his new adventure

« I am excited about this challenge at Alpine. I can’t wait to work in Enstone again, the place where I started my Formula 1 career, said David Sanchez.

(e) This team has always had so many fantastic people involved and there is so much potential to unlock. We have a big task ahead of us to improve performance on track and it’s this kind of challenge that motivates me. I am very eager to get started and I look forward to working again with the technical teams in Enstone and Viry, with the sole aim of bringing regular success back to this great team.
