Monaco Grand Prix – Key figures

Back to back this weekend in Formula 1. After last week's visit to Imola, the Formula 1 paddock is back in the Principality for the traditional Monaco Grand Prix. We take this opportunity to remind you of the key figures you need to know about the Monaco event.

78: The number of laps to complete before crossing the checkered flag for the winner and their followers.

3,337: This is the exact length in kilometers of the Monaco circuit layout, making it the shortest track on the Formula 1 calendar.

18: As the number of corners making up the famous Monaco circuit. Each of them is legendary and known to Formula 1 fans. To name just a few, Sainte Dévote, the Casino, the Tunnel or the Rascasse make up part of this circuit a unique place in the world.

6: The record for victories on this track stands at 6, still held by Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna, whose commemorations for his passing 30 years ago continue this weekend. Behind Senna, Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher each have 5 victories, one more than Alain Prost who completes the podium ahead of a quartet with 3 victories composed of Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, as well as former rivals Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

1:10.166: The fastest lap ever recorded in the history of the Monaco Grand Prix. It is credited to Lewis Hamilton on his Mercedes to secure pole position in 2019.

0: This well-known statistic unfortunately could come to an end or continue this weekend for the home idol. In fact, whether it be in Formula 2 or Formula 1, local driver Charles Leclerc has never managed to step onto the podium at home despite his recognized talent.

His best current result remains a bitter 4th place two years ago following a strategic error by Ferrari. Let’s bet that he will want to break this bad streak once and for all!

5: As the number of drivers on the grid who have already won the Monaco Grand Prix. In addition to Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso (2006/2007) and Max Verstappen (2021/2023) twice, as well as Daniel Ricciardo (2018) and Sergio Pérez (2022) are the other drivers who have already crossed the finish line as winners of the highly coveted Monaco Grand Prix.

9: With a grid of the youngest drivers, it’s almost surprising to see that nearly half of the grid has already stepped on the podium at least once on such a demanding track as Monaco! In addition to the 5 previous winners mentioned, Valtteri Bottas, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, and Esteban Ocon have all had the privilege of tasting champagne in the Principality.

15: It is necessary to go back to the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix to find a victorious team other than Red Bull, Mercedes or Ferrari. It was Jenson Button with Brawn GP. With McLaren’s new momentum, could this streak come to an end this weekend? Unless Fernando Alonso, who is less well-equipped on paper than last year, surprises us with his secret talent. Nothing is certain before this weekend!

70: This weekend, Formula 1 celebrates its 70th Monaco Grand Prix counting for the Formula 1 World Championship, created in 1950. Apart from an interruption of 4 years in the early 50s, only Covid in 2020 prevented the holding of the Monaco Grand Prix since 1955. It is also noteworthy that before the creation of the World Championship, 11 Monaco Grand Prix races were held outside the championship from 1929, including the victory of local driver Louis Chiron in 1931 in his Bugatti.

The first free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix will take place this Friday starting at 1:30 PM. All the schedules to know can be found within the TV program.
