Sergio Perez’s accident in Monaco will cost Red Bull several million euros
Red Bull is going to have to get out the wallet to pay the hefty bill, following Sergio Perez's incident with the two Haas cars on the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, when his single-seater was badly damaged and he was forced to retire.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko revealed that Sergio Perez’s accident, which ended his race at the Monaco Grand Prix, will cost the team up to 3 million dollars. The Mexican was involved in a dramatic incident with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen on the first lap of the race in Monte Carlo.
Kevin Magnussen tried to overtake Perez at the exit of turn 1, but the two drivers collided. This sent Sergio Perez spinning on the path of the other Haas of Nico Hülkenberg, ending the race for all three drivers.
The incident led to a red flag and a nearby photographer was taken to the hospital for checks due to the amount of debris that flew from Perez’s car. It was a tough weekend for Red Bull as they saw their lead in the constructors’ championship reduced to just 24 points ahead of Ferrari.
Speaking after the race, Helmut Marko confirmed that the accident will cost the team around 3 million dollars. “It costs us about two to three million and with the budget cap, it is of course a big handicap,” Marko told Sky Germany. “It was another accident in which Magnussen was involved. Thank God, it ended well, but it was a critical situation. However, I was surprised by how quickly the stewards dealt with the matter.”
« These are decisions that you can hardly influence, but it was just dangerous. » Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, was grateful that Perez came out unscathed from the incident.
« It was a horrible accident to watch, and of course, your heart is in your mouth, and at that point, the immediate goal is the safety of the driver. Fortunately, cars can be repaired and the halo structure and everything else did their job. »
« The most important thing is that Checo was able to emerge unscathed from a very nasty accident », he insists.
