Another disappointment for Pierre Gasly this weekend
After starting from the pits at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly finally retired from the race on lap 35. Another disappointment for the French driver, who failed to finish the race for the second time in succession.
This Saturday, the qualifications for Alpine were particularly disappointing. With neither of the two drivers in Q2, the weekend was already starting to look complicated for the French team. Twentieth in qualifying, the team took the opportunity to make modifications to its car. He thus started the race from the pit lane.
Unfortunately, with a temperamental car, Pierre Gasly did not finish the Hungarian Grand Prix. While he was on the 35th lap of the race, his car experienced hydraulic issues that forced him to retire. He had already suffered a technical incident at the Silverstone Grand Prix where he was unable to complete a single lap of the race.
The issues with Alpine cars seem to be increasingly problematic. With already 3 retirements and poor results, Pierre Gasly seems exasperated by the situation. “There are too many problems, too many concerns,” he declared in the post-race press conference. “Today it’s the hydraulics, yesterday it was the strategy, last week I didn’t race in Silverstone because of the gearbox.”
While the driver has just signed a new contract with the French team, Pierre Gasly does not want to give up, but it is necessary that the team can provide a competitive car before the end of the season. “There are too many problems, and I know that the team is much better than that, so we simply have to do much better together and stop letting opportunities pass weekend after weekend. I know we shouldn’t make this kind of mistake, and I trust the team, I know they are good enough to avoid this, so we need to be more focused, we need to be more rigorous,” admits the French driver.
For the moment, Alpine has only scored 9 points since the beginning of the season. While the start of the season was a nightmare with cars that didn’t even manage to pass the first qualifying session, the team seemed to have started to turn things around. It seems that they are in trouble again.
