At the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix, 21 races of the 2024 championship have been contested, with their share of spectacular but fortunately minor accidents. Among them, we can mention the impressive collision between Haas and Sergio Perez’s Red Bull in the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, as well as George Russell’s off-track incident in the final lap of the Australian Grand Prix.

The trials and qualifications were not spared either, resulting in significant costs for the teams. With an estimated impact of nearly 2 million euros for his accident in the Principality, and other incidents throughout the season, Sergio Perez’s bill reaches 4.861 million dollars (around 4.6 million euros).

He is followed by Alex Albon, whose loss of control during a practice session in Australia and his accident in the first lap of the Mexican Grand Prix led to the destruction of his Williams. These two incidents, costing more than a million dollars (€922,000) alone, add to other damages for a total bill of $4.664 million (approximately €4.4 million).

On his side, Max Verstappen’s single-seater, the reigning champion, suffered damages during the races in Australia, the United States, Austria, and Great Britain, for a total estimated at $910,000 (860,946 €).

Pierre Gasly could make history

Esteban Ocon, the top French driver in the standings, displays a score of $1,005,000 (approximately €950,000), mainly due to his collision in Monaco with his Alpine teammate, Pierre Gasly.

For now, Pierre Gasly is the only driver with no costs related to accidents. Not even a single puncture, a cracked chassis, or a broken wing in 2024. However, this result is subject to debate due to his contact with Esteban Ocon.

Before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a Formula 1 journalist shared this statistic with him and the Frenchman responded that: « The goal is to keep that until the end of the season. It’s true, I haven’t had any costly damages. It’s a good thing. It’s part of the team’s budget and if we can avoid spending too much, that’s better.
