It was only a matter of time but Max Verstappen is now officially a four-time world champion. The Dutchman, by finishing 5th in this Grand Prix, secured the title by outpacing his rival Lando Norris.

The Red Bull driver joins a very exclusive circle of world champions with four titles or more. He equals Alain Prost and his predecessor at Red Bull Sebastian Vettel. Only Fangio and his titles, and the record holders Schumacher and Hamilton with their 7 world titles, are ahead of him.

Qualifications were eventful this year in Vegas. Indeed, while Q1 marked another elimination in Q1 for Sergio Pérez, it was the violent crash of rookie Colapinto that left its mark on the session. The Argentine driver hit the wall violently, receiving a total of 50 G’s, which is 50 times his body weight during deceleration. Fortunately, the Williams driver emerged unscathed.

But the qualifying feat is to be credited to Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman once again extracted the best from his car by placing his Alpine in 3rd position on the grid just behind the untouchable Russell and Sainz. Unfortunately, this exploit did not translate into results for the Norman driver, who fell victim to a mechanical issue the next day, forcing him to retire.
