There will be no consequences for Max Verstappen after his virulent radio message during the season finale in Abu Dhabi, in which he called the FIA race stewards stupid idiots after receiving a penalty.

On Sunday, Max Verstappen received a 10-second penalty for hitting Oscar Piastri at the first corner, a sanction he strongly criticized, as first-lap incidents are often judged more leniently. “Can we ask for 20 seconds? Stupid idiots!” he said on the Red Bull team radio.

The commissioners did not investigate this statement on site in Abu Dhabi, and an FIA spokesperson confirmed to Autosport that the organization considers the matter closed and that no further action will be taken against Max Verstappen.

Max Verstappen had already been sentenced to perform community service by the FIA for using inappropriate language during the press conference preceding the Singapore Grand Prix. On Sunday evening, the FIA confirmed that this community service will involve working with the local automobile club in Rwanda, alongside the FIA gala to be held in Kigali this week.

As a four-time world champion, Max Verstappen is required to attend the FIA awards ceremony on December 13. Runner-up Lando Norris and third place in the championship, Charles Leclerc, are also expected at this event.

A mission of public interest

Max Verstappen’s work will include collaboration with young competitors as part of a development program organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club. The FIA has announced the details of Max Verstappen’s ‘public interest mission’ related to the stewards’ sanction for the use of unacceptable language during the drivers’ press conference at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, according to a statement released after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Verstappen will attend the FIA prize-giving ceremony, which will take place during the General Assemblies next week in Kigali, Rwanda, to receive his fourth consecutive FIA Formula 1 World Champion trophy.

During his stay in Kigali, he will participate in an activity with young competitors as part of the development program organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC). This activity will involve an affordable cross car locally designed in Rwanda by the RAC, based on plans provided by the FIA. The plans for the Level 2 affordable cross car project have been distributed to the global network of 147 National Sporting Authorities (ASN).
