Official: Sophia Flörsch signs a contract in Indy NXT
We announced it exclusively last week, and now it's official. After two years in Formula 3, Sophia Flörsch will bounce back in Indy NXT next season. She'll be joining HMD Motorsports, who gave her the chance to try out this single-seater last October.

Her tests were evidently successful. At the end of October, Sophia Flörsch was invited by HMD Motorsports for a run with an Indy NXT. She completed 92 laps, consistently improving her pace throughout the day, the team stated in a press release.
A month and a half after this session, the American team signed a contract with the German driver, confirming information that we revealed to you in recent days.
After Europe, the United States
« I am thrilled to join HMD Motorsports and come to the United States to participate in the Indy NXT series. My aspiration has always been to race with the best of the best. From the start of my career, I have worked very hard with my team daily to achieve this goal. I have raced in different categories on most continents. It was only natural for me to try the American adventure now because it is the largest racing market in the world », responded the driver who just celebrated her 24th birthday.
This new adventure temporarily halts her career in Europe. Last season, she was competing in Formula 3 with Van Amersfoort Racing. The collaboration was not very fruitful as she did not score a single point. To recall, despite this unproductive season, the German had an opportunity in Formula 2, but due to a lack of funding, she had to give it up.
« She has an excellent team behind her and we believe she will make waves in North America. Her ultimate goal being to move to the NTT Indycar Series, we are eager to help her improve and succeed in Indy NXT and to help her advance her career to the next level », announces Mike Maurini, president of the HMD team.
