Liam Lawson seeks advice from former Red Bull driver ahead of team debut
Liam Lawson plans to seek advice from former Red Bull driver Alex Albon ahead of his debut with the team in 2025.
Red Bull has announced that Liam Lawson will be Max Verstappen’s teammate for the 2025 F1 season. With only 11 Grand Prix races under his belt, Liam Lawson becomes the least experienced driver to join Red Bull.
However, the New Zealander’s rapid adaptation to F1 and his impressive pace, despite his limited experience compared to Yuki Tsunoda. He will have to face a challenging task during his first full season in F1, sharing the team with Max Verstappen.
Since the start of the 2019 season, Max Verstappen has been beaten in qualifying only 11 times, largely dominating Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, and Sergio Perez during this period.
Lawson seeks advice from Albon
In an interview with Sky Sports, Liam Lawson admitted that he will contact Alex Albon to get some advice before his debut with Red Bull. « When we were in DTM, he was probably fed up with me asking so many questions, but I asked him a lot about Red Bull, the team, and the car,” Liam Lawson said.
I know that the car was different at the time, but its characteristics remain the same. I drove it on a simulator and it is aggressive and difficult to handle. Alex told me that everything relied on confidence, and that facing Max required just that.
« I think he will be someone I contact again, as all this is new to me. I will definitely call Alex in the next few weeks to get more information. »
An unbeatable drive?
Liam Lawson will have to adapt to the aggressive handling of the Red Bull, which is a key element of Max Verstappen’s driving style. Last year, Alex Albon provided insights into the extreme responsiveness of the front of the Red Bull and how Max Verstappen manages to handle this characteristic.
In the High Performance podcast, the Thai driver explained: « Everyone has a driving style. My style is rather smooth, but I like a car with a precise and responsive front end. Max does too, but his level of precision and responsiveness is on a whole other level, it’s incredibly sharp. »
« To give an idea of what this might represent, imagine fully increasing the sensitivity [in a video game]. When you move the mouse, it moves instantly and very nervously on the screen. That’s somewhat what it’s like. It’s so vivid that it can make you a bit tense. »
