Despite his debut in F1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of the season, replacing Esteban Ocon, uncertainty remains about the future of Jack Doohan. He had been officially announced last August for the 2025 season.

With the brilliant form of Franco Colapinto, some rumors suggested that Flavio Briatore and Alpine were interested in the services of the Argentine. However, the significant costs needed to release him from his contract with Williams, combined with a disappointing end to the season for him, have made this transfer impossible.

Jack Doohan is expected to race in 2025 alongside Pierre Gasly at Alpine. Although he is guaranteed to start the season, his long-term future remains uncertain.

Interviewed by Le Parisien, Flavio Briatore was cautious in his statements: “The only thing certain in life is death,” he said. “We are starting the year with Pierre and Jack, I can guarantee that. After, we will see during the season. I have to help the team reach a situation where it can achieve results.”

A quite surprising statement about a driver who has not yet had the opportunity to show his qualities. « The driver is the one who must finalize the work of almost a thousand people working behind the scenes. Everyone works for only two people. And if a driver does not improve or deliver results, he will be replaced », he states.

A promising end of the season

Alpine finished the 2024 F1 season as the team in form in the midfield. Their double podium at the São Paulo Grand Prix propelled them to the sixth place in the constructors’ championship.

An important package of upgrades introduced at the United States Grand Prix marked a turning point, particularly in the hands of Pierre Gasly. He scored points in four of the last five races, despite a retirement in Las Vegas.

Moreover, Alpine has made the decision to switch to Mercedes engines in 2026, ending its internal engine project. Stay tuned on March 16th to find out if the French team has made the right choices.
