Jos Verstappen worried about Max’s future at Red Bull
The father of the four-time F1 world champion, Jos Verstappen, spoke about Max's future at Red Bull. He does not rule out the possibility of his son leaving the Austrian team.
Max Verstappen will start the 2025 season in search of a fifth consecutive F1 title, knowing that the task promises to be more challenging than ever.
Although he clinched the 2024 title thanks to a series of brilliant performances, McLaren significantly closed the gap with a previously dominant Red Bull. Red Bull conceded the constructors’ title to McLaren and ultimately finished third behind Ferrari.
This could lead the Dutchman to consider other options to have the best possible car. “Everything is possible,” said his father Jos, quoted by Sky Germany. “He can stay at Red Bull if he sees an advantage. His goal is to be able to win races. If he feels that it’s no longer possible at Red Bull, a change is not out of the question.”

Will Max Verstappen leave Red Bull?
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at McLaren, as well as Ferrari with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, will be looking to dethrone Max Verstappen in 2025.
Mercedes had shown interest in Max Verstappen last year, when Toto Wolff had mentioned the possibility of recruiting him to replace Lewis Hamilton. At the time, Max Verstappen was at the center of internal tensions at Red Bull involving his father, Helmut Marko, and Christian Horner.
Christian Horner and Toto Wolff had also exchanged barbs regarding the Mercedes boss’s public interest in Verstappen.
However, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have since been confirmed as a promising duo of drivers for Mercedes. The team holds high hopes for 2026, as rumors suggest they will have a particularly powerful engine for the new regulatory era of F1.
Aston Martin could also represent an intriguing option for the Dutchman. Their recruitment of the automotive design guru Adrian Newey aims to give them an advantage from the new generation in 2026, which could pique Max Verstappen’s interest.
