Yuki Tsunoda to be confirmed as Red Bull reserve driver
According to the latest rumours, Yuki Tsunoda is to be named Red Bull's reserve driver for the 2025 F1 season.

The 24-year-old Japanese driver will compete in a fifth season with Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls, after being sidelined by the main team for 2025.
Red Bull preferred to promote Liam Lawson as the new teammate of Max Verstappen, after deciding to part ways with Sergio Perez following his disastrous 2024 season.

According to Autosport and RacingNews365, Yuki Tsunoda is expected to assume the role of reserve driver at Red Bull this year.
Not only would he be a backup option if Liam Lawson does not meet expectations, but he would also be the first choice to replace the New Zealander or Max Verstappen if either of them could not participate in a race.
A threat of suspension still looms over Max Verstappen, who starts the 2025 season with eight penalty points on his super license. The four-time world champion has stated that he will not change his driving style, despite being four points away from an automatic one-race suspension.
In theory, this new role for Yuki Tsunoda, who completed his first tests with Red Bull during the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi in December, could allow him to race for the team despite his sidelining.
Red Bull director, Christian Horner, admitted that the Japanese driver could leave the team at the end of his contract in late 2025.
« We are well aware that if we are unable to offer an opportunity to Yuki [at Red Bull] this year, honestly, does it still make sense? », said Christian Horner at the end of last year.
« You can’t keep a driver on the junior team for five years. You can’t always be the second choice. You either have to let him go at this point or consider another solution. »
