In early 2025, Liam Lawson is promoted to Red Bull Racing to replace Sergio Pérez. However, after just two Grand Prix, marked by a retirement in Australia and a 12th place finish in China, Lawson is replaced by Yuki Tsunoda. Peter Bayer, director of Racing Bulls, acknowledged that this swift transition was challenging for the young driver: « He arrived a bit sad and confused, but he quickly regained his energy and humor ».

Promising beginnings with Racing Bulls

Back with Racing Bulls, Lawson had to quickly adapt to a different car. At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he achieved his best qualifying position of the season by securing 12th on the grid. In the race, he finished in 11th position, but a 10-second penalty for leaving the track while attempting to overtake Jack Doohan dropped him to 12th place.

Despite this penalty, Lawson was optimistic: « It was clearly our best performance so far. I’m feeling more and more comfortable with the car ».

Objective: regaining confidence and points

Although his teammate Isack Hadjar has already scored points this season, Lawson is supported by his team. A view confirmed by Peter Bayer: « We are confident that he will bounce back and will be fast ».

With the support of Racing Bulls, Lawson hopes to regain the confidence needed to once again contend for a future seat at Red Bull. His journey demonstrates the difficulty of establishing oneself at the highest level, but also the resilience needed to bounce back.

Liam Lawson’s path is fraught with obstacles, but his return to Racing Bulls offers him an opportunity to rebuild. With determination and hard work, the young New Zealander might well find his place among the elite of Formula 1.
