Liam Lawson: « I’ve never stopped riding with confidence »
Present at the official FIA press conference in Imola on Friday, Liam Lawson expressed his desire to bounce back after a complicated start to the season. The Racing Bulls driver, demoted from the Red Bull team after two races, is looking to regain his form and prove his worth.
The New Zealander from Racing Bulls approaches Imola with determination despite a difficult start to the season.
« I think each weekend, we feel more comfortable, and returning to circuits we already know helps a lot », said Lawson. « Miami was a difficult race, but honestly, I felt quite comfortable in the car. We had good speed, but there are many variables in Formula 1. Completing a full weekend has been quite challenging recently. We will try to do our best this week, at a home race for the team. »
Intact trust despite setbacks
Despite his demotion at Racing Bulls, Lawson claims that his confidence behind the wheel has not been shaken.
« I think so. Honestly, I would say that I have never stopped driving with confidence », he stated. « It has been a tough year so far, with really complicated weekends, but personally, I have always felt comfortable in the car. I keep learning, that’s for sure, but that hasn’t really changed. »
A familiar circuit for a new start
Lawson sees Imola as an opportunity to restart his season, thanks to his past experience on this circuit.
I have had the chance to test here in the past. It’s a very intense circuit, quite challenging, very old-school — which is exciting for us drivers, he explained. This familiarity with the track could allow him to leverage his experience to achieve a better result this weekend.
A growing pressure for results
Since his return to Racing Bulls, Lawson has not yet scored any points this season. The pressure is mounting for the young driver, especially since his teammate, Isack Hadjar, has shown promising performances. Lawson is aware that he must quickly turn the tide to secure his place in Formula 1.
