Lando Norris: “We had a great battle with Oscar”
McLaren's British driver won the Austrian Grand Prix 2025 with authority, after an intense and strategic race against teammate Oscar Piastri. The win puts Lando Norris firmly back in the fight for the championship.

A brilliant pole position
From the free practice sessions, Lando Norris showed very strong form, dominating the Friday and Saturday morning sessions. During qualifying, he confirmed his superiority by securing an impressive pole position, creating a clear gap over his challengers. His McLaren seemed perfectly tuned for the fast and technical track of Spielberg.
A tense but flawless race
The start of the Grand Prix was delayed by a few minutes due to an incident on the grid involving Carlos Sainz, but it did not disturb Lando Norris. From the beginning of the race, he managed to maintain the lead despite constant pressure from Oscar Piastri, who was never more than two seconds behind him.
The two McLaren drivers delivered an intense but respectful battle, maintaining a high pace from start to finish. Lando Norris managed his tire wear and held off attacks, even when his front wing seemed slightly damaged in the final laps.
A McLaren double and valuable points
With Oscar Piastri in second and Charles Leclerc in third, McLaren secures a resounding one-two finish, consolidating its lead in the constructors’ championship. This victory allows Lando Norris to close the gap in the overall standings against his teammate, returning to just 15 points.
« It was a difficult race, very physical, but also very fun. We gave it our all, Oscar was super fast. I’m proud of what the team accomplished », said Lando Norris after the finish.
A double, that’s exactly what we wanted, and we did it, so I’m happy. We had a great battle, there was a lot of sun – a lot of stress, but also a lot of fun. A beautiful fight, so congratulations to Oscar. In the car, it was really intense, especially when he was in the DRS zone, he says.
A turning point in the season?
While Max Verstappen retired on the first lap after contact with Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri confirm McLaren’s rise in power this season. With several races still to come, the battle for the title promises to be more open than ever.
