Ferrari CEO discusses the future of Fred Vasseur

But these rumors have highlighted the team’s performances under Fred Vasseur’s direction while reminding of Ferrari’s tradition of intransigence towards its team principals.

Since the last drivers’ title won by Ferrari in 2007, five team principals have succeeded each other in an attempt to bring the team back to the top — without success.

During the British Grand Prix of F1, CEO Benedetto Vigna was interviewed by Sky Italia about the future of the Frenchman.

« I love coming here and seeing a united team, » he stated. « I love being with people, because they are always the ones who make the difference. Teams grow through difficulties. Unity is strength, and at Ferrari, it is truly present, I can feel it. »

He stated: « The future of Vasseur? He is the team principal, we are in July, and we are discussing. We just had lunch together… »

But the shortcomings of the SF-25 are very real: the car is behind the McLarens, Verstappen’s Red Bull, and often also behind the Mercedes — even though Ferrari outpaced the German team at Silverstone.

A mixed performance at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton complained about the behavior of the Ferrari in the rain at Silverstone. The Italian press urges Ferrari to pay careful attention to the remarks of the Briton.

Despite a dull race on Sunday, the seven-time world champion claims to have identified key elements to help Ferrari in the development of their 2026 car.

At Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton finished 4th, while Charles Leclerc ended 14th.

« It was a difficult race from the first lap, » said Fred Vasseur to Sky Italia. « Charles took the gamble with the slicks, it could have been the right choice. The pace was good, except compared to McLaren, but we struggled in traffic. »

« The positive aspect is that we have made progress on dry tracks. Now, we must aim for a double in qualifying. The goal is to win races, not just to increase the gap with Mercedes. Disastrous Leclerc? No, he was angry, but in sports, everyone can make mistakes », he says.

« We are a team, we now need to prepare for Spa on this basis. We can do better », he concluded.

See you in three weeks in Belgium to see if the Italian team can bounce back and compete for the podium.
