The time to review the files is over. Last May, the FIA and the ACO launched a call for tenders to find out who would provide the engines for the LMP2, from 2026 onwards. This Friday, October 20th, the two institutions made their verdict. It is ultimately Gibson who will supply its power units to the entire LMP2 field.

« The tender procedure took into account several factors, such as performance, weight and reliability, operating and maintenance costs of the unit, the cost of spare parts, as well as the infostructure and customer service capabilities of the candidate company, its sustainability and its environmental and carbon footprint », details a press release from the ACO.

Gibson will supply a unique engine. This will be a 4.2 litre atmospheric V8. Despite its withdrawal from the world endurance championship in 2024, due to a high number of Hypercar, the LMP2 field will remain at Le Mans (unless the growth of the Hypercar and GT3 fields calls this place into question). This will be the only WEC event where it will be possible to admire these prototypes.

This category will also continue its presence in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.
