The Andretti Cadillac team continues to make headlines, after its Formula 1 application was rejected and the American Congress got involved, it continues its preparations to join the discipline.

The American team has just announced the recruitment of Pat Symonds, who was until recently the technical director of the championship. Symonds has left his position as chief technical director of F1 after seven years in this role. He played a crucial role in shaping the technical regulations of F1 for 2022 and 2026. He has decided to leave the organization, a decision that has been considered for a long time.

Mario Andretti’s organization has hired the septuagenarian for a role as an executive engineering consultant. He will work from the team’s new base in Silverstone, UK, after a period of forced leave to comply with clauses on unfair competition. As the American racing giant actively pursues its entry into F1 with the General Motors Cadillac brand, this recruitment is another step towards its goal.

We couldn’t be happier to welcome Pat to the Andretti family. Pat’s expertise in aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and Formula 1 power units will be crucial as we continue to build a competitive team. I believe his knowledge has been instrumental in shaping the Formula 1 narrative, and his vote of confidence in joining our effort speaks volumes. I am truly excited for this next step as our work continues at a rapid pace, declared Andretti on social media.

Pat Symonds was an important member of the Benetton team, which won championships with Michael Schumacher in the mid-90s. He stayed with the team during its transformation into Renault until his departure following the Singapore Crashgate scandal in 2008. Before returning to the series as a consultant for Virgin. He then became the technical director at Williams, before joining the F1 organization in 2017.
