Starting from third position on the starting grid, Nico Rosberg was likely aiming for better than a final 5th place. The German driver was even in second place after the first corner. Unfortunately, his fuel-laden W02 didn't spare his first set of tires. Nevertheless, the W02 seems definitively more competitive even though there is still work to be done before aiming for the top positions.
Schumacher's race was disrupted as early as the second lap due to an incident with Vitaly Petrov's Lotus Renault. The seven-time world champion will not have fond memories of this Turkish Grand Prix.

A somewhat complicated day for the Williams team. Pastor Maldonado suffered several off-track excursions during the day's two sessions. The Venezuelan remains optimistic as he knows the circuit from having raced there in GP2 in the past. Rubens Barrichello once again faced issues with the KERS system, which cost him track time.
Nonetheless, both drivers highlight the progress made thanks to the new package brought by the team and hope to achieve a good result.

This morning, the MP4-26s stayed in the garage for most of the first free practice session. Button only completed 4 laps, ranking 23rd, while Lewis Hamilton did not complete a single flying lap.
In the afternoon, the two Englishmen made up for it by finishing 1st and 3rd, respectively. The goal is to get onto the podium or better.

The two free practice sessions of the day took place under opposite weather conditions. Rain was present in the morning while the sun appeared in the afternoon. Like many teams, Mercedes GP took the opportunity to test the rain tires provided by Pirelli and tried various settings for these track conditions.
The outcome is rather positive as the W02 proved to be competitive in both sessions. Nico Rosberg achieved the second-fastest time both on wet and dry tracks. Michael Schumacher was not far behind, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively in the two sessions of the day.

The track conditions were much better during this second session of the day. At the end of the 90 minutes, it was Jenson Button who set the fastest time ahead of Rosberg, Hamilton, and Schumacher. Sebastian Vettel was unable to take to the track following his mistake this morning.
