Bahrain Grand Prix standings: McLaren drivers close the gap
Oscar Piastri puts the pressure on his teammate with his second win of the season. Pierre Gasly and Alpine finally unlock their points counters.

There was no doubt about Oscar Piastri’s victory in Bahrain. The question was whether the Australian would be able to overtake his teammate. The answer is no, as with Lando Norris finishing in third position, only three points separate the two teammates.
Max Verstappen, with his underperformance, allowed the two McLaren drivers to pull ahead slightly and sees George Russell getting dangerously close. But the Briton might lose a few points as he has been placed under investigation by the stewards.
Esteban Ocon makes up for his chaotic Japanese Grand Prix and finds himself back in the points zone. The Haas driver has 14 points after this race in Bahrain. Pierre Gasly, with his very good result, climbs to thirteenth place and has 6 points. He even stays ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, who is still learning with Red Bull.
Pierre Gasly’s result on this track also impacts the constructors’ standings. Alpine has finally opened its account, allowing the Franco-British team to overtake Sauber, even though the Swiss team has the same tally (6 points).
At the front, McLaren consolidates its lead and relegates Mercedes to 58 points behind. The German team didn’t score many points this weekend as Kimi Antonelli finished outside the top 10. Ferrari, after a double disqualification in China, is catching up with Red Bull and will soon put pressure on the Austrian team. For them, it’s time for Yuki Tsunoda to get up to speed.
