Jean Alesi: "Monaco is a mythical place that must be preserved"
F1. In the heart of the pitlane of the Monaco circuit, Jean Alesi granted us an interview where he particularly opens up about what this circuit means to him.
Always available, Jean Alesi did not hesitate to answer our questions on the occasion of the Monaco Grand Prix, which is taking place this weekend in the Principality.
Hello Jean. You, who have been on the podium three times in Monaco, which one do you think is the most beautiful?
« Without a doubt the first (in 1990 on Tyrrell-Cosworth, Alesi finishes second behind Ayrton Senna). Because it's my first race here, there was Senna, I finish second, it was an extraordinary weekend. So really, my first weekend was almost one of the most beautiful weekends of my life. »
Do you still consider Monaco to be the jewel of the F1 calendar?
« History is something very important in all sports. Monaco is Old Trafford, it's the Parc des Princes, they are places that are iconic and should be preserved. Of course, technological advancements make it increasingly difficult for Formula 1 drivers to navigate the streets of Monaco. But the efforts made by the Principality to provide a safe and attractive circuit are incredible, and they deserve respect. »
Regarding the French Grand Prix. Recently, the Minister of Sports stated that she was open to discussing with Stefano Domenicali, what do you think?
« It's an important first step, but the President should also talk to Stefano. »
