Toto Wolff: "A small chance" for the championship
F1. Despite the third and fourth places of the Mercedes drivers at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the team principal and shareholder of the team, Toto Wolff, remains skeptical about Mercedes' chances for the championship.
If the Bahrain Grand Prix was not a resounding success for the Silver Arrows, it is far from being as catastrophic as it was for Red Bull. Mercedes still managed to secure a podium with Lewis Hamilton in third place, and George Russell took fourth place thanks to Red Bull's double retirement in the last two laps of the race.
Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes, spoke about this result. If we had finished third and fourth here last year, it would have been really frustrating, he said. But this year, we fought against stronger opponents. With the Red Bulls out of the race, it's a fantastic result, Wolff delivered.
However, Toto Wolff remains skeptical about Mercedes' chances for a championship. If you look at the standings in Bahrain, we have a very small chance of qualifying for one of the championships," admitted the Austrian.
Mercedes still has a lot of work to do, but some drivers remain cautious and believe in the evolution of the Silver Arrows.
