Singapore Grand Prix - Race prospects
F1. Following a thrilling and intense qualifying session, Charles Leclerc secured another pole position this season while Max Verstappen will only start from 8th place. Could this be decisive in delaying the crowning of the world championship? Here are the race prospects for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Will Leclerc postpone the deadline for the world title?
On an urban circuit, the pole position is even more important than elsewhere. Charles Leclerc has therefore taken a big step towards victory this Saturday by managing to win this precious position at the end of a very impressive qualifying session.
On a Grand Prix where Max Verstappen has a first match point to obtain the World Champion title, the Ferrari driver has all the cards in hand to delay the consecration of his Dutch rival for at least one Grand Prix. And it goes without saying that a victory would do wonders for the Red side!
Can Hamilton play for victory at Marina Bay?
For a long moment, his name was written at the top of the leaderboard during this eventful Q3. In the end, he was only missing 45 milliseconds to secure his first pole position of the season.
So it is with a slight disappointment that Lewis Hamilton got out of his car, but it is pleasing to see that the seven-time World Champion is regaining his form towards the end of the season! This is simply his best qualifying performance of the year, the first among the top three on the grid.
And what if the British were to join the fight for victory? This possibility should definitely not be ruled out!

Will Verstappen climb back to the front positions?
The reigning world champion was furious at the end of the session. Indeed, the Red Bull driver had to abort his attempts twice, even though he was well within the times of the best.
The first, justified, in order to have time to put on new tires for the final flying lap. The second, much more surprising, to be able to preserve enough fuel under the Parc Fermé regime. A gross blunder that Red Bull had not accustomed us to but proves that even the best teams of the moment can make mistakes.
For Verstappen, it's hard to swallow, as he will start 8th, far behind Leclerc and his teammate Pérez, the only ones mathematically still in the running to challenge him for the world title. He will have to roll up his sleeves in order to make a comeback and compete for the top positions, on a circuit where overtaking is almost as difficult as in Monaco!
Will Alonso play the troublemaker?
He too passed his qualifications! Fifth at the end of the session where he showcased his talent, Fernando Alonso loves this Marina Bay track of which he is the first winner, despite the special circumstances that longtime fans are familiar with.
If his teammate Ocon encountered problems and will only start in 18th place, the double world champion has a card to play with an Alpine car that is better than the midfield, an excellent position on the grid, and a circuit that is rather stingy with overtaking. If, as usual, he succeeds with his start this Sunday, there is no doubt that the Spanish driver will have to be reckoned with to play for the top 5... or even better!
Will it rain this Sunday?
It's the big unknown that greatly disrupted this Saturday and offered us the spectacle during qualifying with this drying track.
The rain could make its appearance this Sunday in Singapore and could spice up the Grand Prix for its return to the calendar since 2019. With a particularly high risk of the Safety car without rain, there is no doubt that if the showers are present, the race should be lively!
So, according to you, who will win the Singapore Grand Prix?
The race will start this Sunday from 2 p.m. onwards.
