The 2022 calendar is not immune to changes according to Domenicali
F1. The calendar for the 2022 F1 season was finalized several months ago. It is marked by the arrival of a new circuit in Miami and the return of several Grand Prix races that were absent due to the pandemic. However, the 2022 calendar could also be disrupted by Covid-19.
The 2022 season will mark the return of 4 iconic Formula 1 Grand Prix races that have been absent for the past two years due to the pandemic. The Grand Prix races in question are Australia, Singapore, Canada, and Japan. However, despite their scheduling for the upcoming season, the risk of having to cancel one of the races on the calendar is high, as explained by the president of F1.
« We must not underestimate the corona pandemic. In 2022, we may have to modify the schedule again, says Stefano Domenicali to Sport1.
At the same time, Formula 1 is hosting a brand new Grand Prix, the one in Miami. Domenicali hopes to ensure that this race is a success and thus further win over the American audience.
"The USA is important to us, and we are working hard to make Miami a success in 2022," explains Domenicali.
This conquest is not the only one that the boss of F1 wants to make. In fact, the Chinese market seems to be opening up a little more to F1 thanks to the arrival of the first Chinese driver in this sport, Guanyu Zhou.
Stefano Domenicali also spoke about the potential return of certain Grand Prix races, such as the one in Hockenheim or even the return of a Grand Prix in Africa.
(I) I would like to speak to the promoters in Germany in early 2022. It should be an open discussion on how Formula 1 can return to Germany.
« A return to Africa - whether in the north or in the south - would be fantastic. The speed at which it will happen will also depend on the Covid situation, concludes Domenicali.
