Kevin Magnussen, a "gift from heaven" for Mick Schumacher?
F1. Haas has made the choice to sacrifice their 2021 season in order to prepare for 2022 in the best possible way. And if the strategy appears to be paying off, the return of Kevin Magnussen could prove beneficial on many levels.
A few days after ousting Nikita Mazepin, Haas offered their former driver, Kevin Magnussen, to join their ranks. If the Danish driver didn't take much time to make his decision, this choice has proved beneficial for everyone.
Despite a year of absence in Formula 1, Kevin Magnussen started 2022 in the best possible way. Starting in seventh position on the grid, he secured fifth place at the checkered flag, earning the team its first points since 2020. Clearly, Magnussen's return is a blessing for Haas, but not only for them.
For former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner, the Dane is useful for Haas, just as he could be for Mick Schumacher. "Magnussen is a godsend for Mick," he said. "Mick must climb the ranks to be at the front [...]. Schumacher will reach another level thanks to Magnussen."
Therefore, the Dane would be an additional source of motivation for Schumacher. The German was consistently better than Nikita Mazepin, and having a teammate of a different level could help him improve. Let's remember that his contract will expire this season, and if he were to be as good or even stronger than Kevin Magnussen, Haas would be more inclined to extend said contract.
